Champions of MLS

Frequently asked questions

Where does our contribution money go?

Your pledge will be used in three ways:

  1. To produce quantitative research demonstrating the pro-consumer nature of the MLS.

  2. To retain legal advisors with experience engaging the FTC and DOJ.

  3. To ensure that MLS leaders are present and engaged in discussions with regulators.

What progress has been made thus far?

CMLS has hired a respected econometrician who is already underway with an analysis of MLS data, and attorneys with deep experience engaging the federal regulators. Your support is needed to ensure their work continues.

Is this a one-time or yearly pledge?

Currently, this is a one-time ask. Developments with regulators and within our industry will determine what our future needs might be.

Is this a lobbying effort?

No. We will not be lobbying elected officials or lawmakers. This is a campaign to engage regulators and exercise thought leadership.

Isn’t the NAR already doing this?

The NAR has, and is, pursuing its own efforts to speak to the pro-consumer nature of the U.S. real estate market, and we support these efforts. The Champions of MLS campaign complements these efforts from an MLS perspective — a perspective that includes the brokers and agents that depend on the MLS to serve consumers.

Why should we support this campaign?

The DOJ, FTC and an array of litigants are pursuing inquiries that threaten the pro-consumer MLS system as we know it. These inquiries are based on incomplete information. If you believe in the MLS, and want to continue to see it thrive, your support is critical.
